Why have just a plain door leading out to your outdoor living area when you could have something more elegant that will provide natural light, fresh air, and a great view? A patio door is a wonderful addition to any home and will not only add style to the space, but character to the interior and exterior of your home. Here are some reasons why adding a patio door to your home is a great idea.

Reason #1: They can fit any home.
Patio doors come in two styles: swing or slide. Because of this, they can fit into any home, allowing you a beautiful view! A sliding patio door is a good option for rooms that don’t have the space for a door to swing out or in. They come with screens that can ventilate the space, so you can get fresh air in your home whenever you need it. Swinging patio doors are a classic and they generally have one to two movable panels that will swing in and out. These panels can give you wide space that allow you to move things in and out of the home if you need to.

Reason #2: You can be more in touch with the great outdoors.
An outdoor living space is an extension of your home and to help connect the inside and outside, a patio door can do just that. The open view that a patio door gives you will become a gateway to whatever outdoor space you have, whether it’s a backyard, deck, or patio.

Reason #3: Reduced energy bills.
Patio doors will allow you to have more natural light so you can rely on the light bulbs in your house less! In addition, if you have a patio door with low E coatings or gas fills as well as those that are Energy Star rated, the door is designed to be incredibly efficient and keep temperatures comfortable and consistent inside. Energy efficient doors and windows translate to less wasted air through leaky cracks and a savings in utility bills.

Patio doors can be customized to fit whatever style of home you have. For example, you have an older home with character, we can find a patio door that fits that home style, even with special hardware that can give you the look you want.  Patio doors come in various colors too, so no matter what preference you have, you’re sure to find something to suit your taste. Not sure what style of patio door will fit your home? We’re happy to come out and take a look at your space and what options you have. Our free in-home estimates will help give you an idea on the cost, as well.

We are proud to serve Portland and the surrounding areas as well as Central Oregon. Our company has a sterling reputation that has been built over the last 20+ years and we’re proud of our team. Let us help you prioritize your patio door project!

October is here & that means that Halloween is right around the corner. This holiday is a lot of fun for kids, but it can be fun for adults too, especially when it comes to decorating your home. Your first priority: the front door. This can make a spooky statement. Here are some décor ideas on how to make your front door “bootiful” for Halloween.

Idea #1: Add creepy crawlies.
Spiders and bugs will give most people the creeps, which makes them a fun addition to your front door. Add them to your front door with spider webs, or place them around your window or door frames for an extra touch of spookiness.

Idea #2: Add fabric.
Get some green fabric and put your imagination to work to cover your door & transform it into a monster. Draw, paint, or stick on some googly eyes and a monster mouth and before you know it, you have a Frankenstein-style entry door.

Idea #3: Add Halloween lighting.
Accent your front doorway with a string of sparkling pumpkin lights, then hang twigs, caution tape, crows, bats, and or mini ghosts over the porch/entryway area. You’ll transform the area into a ghostly sight!

Idea #4: Add classic décor.
Not a huge fan of scary décor? You can transform your front steps into an autumn oasis with simple fall decorations. A nice fall wreath for your front door, pumpkins, and fall flowers can make your front door/walkway a welcoming space for trick-or-treaters and other guests.

Maybe you need to replace your front door before you decorate for autumn and winter and are looking for some new exterior door options. With the help of our specialists at Lifetime Windows & Doors, you can determine which doors will fit your home’s style and most importantly, your budget.  Our two locations serve customers in Portland as well as Bend and Central Oregon! How to Protect Your Home During Heavy Rains

$

Autumn in the Pacific Northwest is in full swing. That means the wind and rain are becoming more and more common and you’ll need to protect your windows, doors, and roof from water or wind damage. Here are some tips on how to keep your home protected from heavy rains this fall and winter.

Tip #1: Be sure your gutters are unclogged.
With heavy rains and winds, your gutters can easily become clogged with autumn leaves, debris, or twigs. Make sure you regularly inspect your gutters for these items because if they build up, your gutters could drip and cause damage to your siding or roof, or could cause damage from leaking water into your windows.

Tip #2: Make sure your windows and doors are sealed properly.
Once the colder, wetter weather begins, it’s important to check your home’s doors, windows, and skylights that are connected to the outside. Make sure that everything is sealed off appropriately. Small cracks in your windows could bring in cold air and moisture, which could cause damage or even allow mold growth. We’re happy to provide free quotes on replacing your cracked and worn windows with windows that are insulated and energy efficient. In addition, throughout the winter, be sure you look often for any issues with caulking or cracking. If you notice an issue, stay on top of it and get it fixed right away. If you don’t, it could mean you’ll have to come up with more money down the road for repairs.

Tip #3: Check your roof.
Roofing weatherization is key during the autumn months. Inspect your roof on a regular basis to be sure that you don’t have any missing shingles or other shingles that may be curled or cracked. Noticeable damage should be fixed quickly, because if it’s not, rain water could creep in and could threaten the integrity of the roof.

Whether you need advice on maintaining your roof, need a quote on new, energy efficient doors, or you need window repair or replacement, our team at Lifetime is experienced and ready to help. We love serving Portland area customers and now our second location also serves customers in Bend and Central Oregon! Contact us today if you need expert advice on keeping your home in the best shape during the autumn and winter months.

Best Window Styles for Craftsman Homes

Craftsman-style homes were first introduced at the beginning of the 20th century and today, they are still incredibly popular homes. The Craftsman-design was influenced by British Arts & Crafts movement ideals and designers that were inspired by American Shaker furniture, Mission Revival Style, and the Anglo-Japanese style. This movement was a reaction against the eclectic Victorian looks that were common at that time.  These homes are known for their unique and artistic detail as well as their sense of charm, that is simply unmatched.

What is a Craftsman-style home?
There are several defining characteristics of a Craftsman home which include: front porch, low-pitched gabled roof, exposed beams or knee braces under roof eaves, wooden siding with stone, brick, or concrete details, and/or stocky columns.

Which windows work best for Craftsman homes?
If you own a Craftsman-style home and need new windows, you’ll want to replace the windows that will keep with the overall character and charm of the home. Traditional rectangular and square windows are perfect for this style of home and if there is an area for it, eyebrow windows can also be a great addition.

The Milgard Essence wood window is a great option for a Craftsman home because they are solid wood and provide the elegance and character that Craftsman-style homes represent. The durable fiberglass exterior means it will last a long time and offer superb protection from the various Northwest weather elements year after year, especially since Oregon gets so much rain. In addition to the durable fiberglass exterior, these are the only wood windows that come with a full lifetime warranty with glass breakage coverage. For example, if your child is playing outside and a ball goes through the window and breaks it, Milgard will replace the glass, no questions asked!

Mention this blog post and we’ll honor our neighborhood special that offers $100 off each installed window (4 window minimum) or $200 off each door, if you contract with us by December 15th.

We will provide a free, no-hassle estimate by calling today!

What are Egress Windows?

If you’ve heard the term “egress window”, chances are you might have wondered what it was and if you need one. An egress window is typically defined as a “path out” and is usually a window that is large enough for entry or exit in case of an emergency. The size has been defined by local business codes. In other words, in case of an emergency, the windows in your home or basement area need to be large enough so people inside the home can get out and rescue workers can get in. In addition, the windows need to be operable from the inside without any extra tools or equipment. No matter what, they need to be wide enough for you to crawl through in the event of an emergency situation.

What are the regulations surrounding egress windows?
Here are the basic regulations that you need to keep in mind when it comes to egress windows.

-Minimum opening width: 20 inches

-Minimum height of opening: 24 inches

-Minimum net clear opening: 5.7 square feet

-Maximum sill height above floor: 44 inches

If you’re in the process of buying or selling your home or are considering buying or selling, be aware that an inspector will check to make sure that the windows meet egress and if they don’t, you may need to have them replaced. If you plan on having new windows installed, our team will be sure that your windows meet egress standards and that everything will be up to code for your own safety. Some older homes were built before egress requirements were set in place, so if you’re remodeling, take this into consideration and do your research on which ones may need to be replaced. Your safety is important!

Whether it’s one window or a full remodel that includes your basement, our team of experienced window specialists are well-versed in the various local safety codes and can work with you on getting the right egress windows in place for your home. We are proud to serve Portland and the surrounding areas as well as Central Oregon and soon, our Vancouver, Washington location. Our company has a sterling reputation that has been built over the last couple of decades and we’re proud of our team. Let us help you prioritize your project!

Deck Your House Out For The Holidays!

It’s official—the Christmas season is in full swing and holiday decorations are popping up all over the place! When thinking about decorating your home for Christmas, the first and best place to start is your door or front porch! Use it as a focal point for your decorations. Think about what theme you like best. Maybe it’s a winter wonderland, an elf workshop, Frosty the Snowman, or a nativity scene theme that speaks to you. Whether it’s simple or elaborate, decorating for Christmas is all about what style you like the best.

Idea #1: Garland.
Garland around your front door is a classic way to make your home look fun and festive. This is a simple decorating idea, so if you want a little more elegance, consider adding bright red bows or white lights.

Idea #2: Snow.
Pacific Northwest weather is sometimes unpredictable. Whether we get snow or not, you can make your own snow scene with your home décor. To do this, use a can of window snow or ice. The trick is to be careful when you apply it by covering the trim to avoid damage to the wood or vinyl parts of the window.

Idea #3: Decorated doors.
Decorating your front door can truly captivate passersby and guests that come to your home. Use foil wrapping paper to cover it and tie it with an over-sized bow to make it look like a giant Christmas gift. Use bold metallic colors like green, red, silver, or gold. Another popular way to decorate the door is by adding beautiful wreaths. Whether it’s a fresh wreath made of greenery or one that you make yourself with the newest Pinterest craft idea, be sure that the colors and style complements the overall style of your home.

Idea #4: Let there be light.
If you have windows with ledges around your home, consider adding inexpensive battery-powered candle lights near the windows. Turn them off during the day and when the sun goes down for the day, switch them back on to give your home a warm glow during the dark winter night.

Want to keep your family warm this holiday season and makeover your home at the same time? New windows and doors are the answer! Call us today for some new energy efficient options. We will provide a free, no-hassle estimate by calling today!

Factors to consider when buying a front door

Knock, knock! It’s time to buy a new front door for your home! There are a variety of exterior door styles out there to choose from, so when it comes to picking a new front door, you might feel overwhelmed with the options. A new front door is a good investment for any homeowner. It adds curb appeal but it also creates an energy efficient barrier that keeps warm air in and cold air out. Our outstanding team at Lifetime Windows & Doors is here to help give you some tips and important factors to consider when buying a front door.

#1: Your budget.
Home maintenance, home repairs, and home remodeling costs money. We understand that your budget is important and will help you narrow down the search for the perfect door so you can stay within budget. The first step for homeowners to take is to know exactly what that budget is, then let us know so we can help find something that will meet all of your needs without going over the price you can afford. The next step is determining which features you need. This will help you determine how much you should spend, too. For instance, doors that are extremely energy efficient may cost a bit more upfront, but they will save you money in the long term on utility bills. This means you could save hundreds or even thousands of dollars over the years – sounds great, right?

#2: The size.
Many times homeowners aren’t sure if a standard or customized door is required for their home. This is where we can help! Our team at Lifetime Windows & Doors will come out and measure your door and let you know what options you have. Most of the time, homes have a standard door size, but other homes may need one that is larger, taller, or more decorative. All of these things need to be taken into consideration. We’re happy to help with all of the details.

#3: Material and style.
Materials are key when it comes to choosing a new door. Most doors are made of wood, steel, or fiberglass. Fiberglass doors are one of the most popular doors out there because they are known to be very energy efficient and come in a variety of colors and styles. Steel doors are affordable and are one of the most durable doors you can buy. Wood doors are generally a bit higher in price because they are often unique and customizable.

No matter what style or size you prefer, we have doors that can fit into any classic, traditional, or modern look and most importantly, we take note of your budget so you can find a door that you love in your price range! We serve customers all around the Portland metro area, as well as customers in Bend and Central Oregon. And soon, we’re opening our third location in Vancouver to serve customers around Southwest Washington. If you are ready to make the leap to install beautiful new doors for the new year, contact us today for a free, no pressure quote!

Are Bow and Bay Windows Good Options for Portland, OR Homes?

$

If you need new windows in your Portland, OR home, you have a lot of options to consider. You have to think about the material and whether you want vinyl, wood, or one of the many other options available. You also have to think about style and aesthetics. Bow and bay windows are top of the line when it comes to style. You can add extra space to your home and extra flair to both the interior and exterior. But are bow and bay windows a good option for a home in Portland, OR? Here are a few thoughts on the matter.

Pros:

  • First Impressions

The first impression people have of your home is very important to its overall value. If your curb appeal is high, potential buyers will be willing to pay more for your house if you ever decide to sell. Putting in new windows of any kind can raise the value of your Portland, OR home. But putting in windows that have a high “wow” factor will do even more. Bow and bay windows are striking and they both give you a classy appeal from the curb. Once people enter your home, the windows showcase the room as well.

  • Views

Bow and bay windows will also make the most of any view you have from your Portland, OR house. The windows are not flat against the house, but rather sit at an angle. Bow windows feature 4-5 windows in a curved structure while bay windows have just three windows. Either way, you get to see what’s directly outside your house, but you can also see out either side, giving you a more panoramic view. If you have a nice view out one side of your home, bow and bay windows work wonders to showcase the view.

  • Customizable

Bow windows require custom-made frames that fit the multiple windows. Bay windows are also customizable. Because of the variety of options, you get to pick and choose between the window styles you want to pair together. Most people put a picture window in the middle and couple it with surrounding windows that can be opened. You get the best of both worlds with an uninterrupted view and ventilation options.

Cons:

  • Price

When you consider bow or bay windows for your Portland, OR home, you will have to seriously think about the pricing. These windows are going to be more expensive than a standard window of any other type. There are more windows involved and they often have to be customized, which costs extra. Keep in mind that you are raising the value of your home and making it more energy efficient by installing new windows in Portland, OR.

  • Labor Intensive

It takes technicians half an hour to pop one new window into your home in order to replace an older model. Bow and bay windows are more labor intensive and they will take longer to install.

Considering bow or bay windows? The choice is all yours! But Lifetime Windows & Doors is here to help you make the decision by giving you any information you need. Stop by and see us at 14710 SE Lee Ave Portland, OR 97267. Or call (503) 230-0500.

Let the Air Flow Through your Portland, OR Home with Replacement Windows

When you hit a long patch of cold or hot weather, it’s hard to stay inside all the time with the house all locked up. On the other hand, when you come across a lovely day in Portland, OR, you don’t want to stay cooped up inside either. Research shows that most people spend up to 90% of their time inside. While you can’t be outside all day on a nice day, you can enjoy fresh air through your replacement windows. Here are a few things that can help you decide when it’s time to find replacement windows for your home in Portland, OR.

-You want to let the fresh air in, but you simply can’t open the windows!

There’s nothing better than a cool, spring breeze or the smell of the air after it rains. As much as you want to enjoy the weather, you have things to do around the house. You might think you could get things done while you enjoy the fresh air by opening your windows, but your old windows have another idea. They are stuck, stuck, stuck. If you do manage to get one open, you might be worn out from the extra effort. If you have to wrestle with your windows just to get them to open or close, it’s time for replacement windows. Replacement windows will let the crisp outside airflow through your house in an effortless manner whenever you want.

-You’ve spent all winter inside with the house shut up. When the weather turns nice, you want to open the windows and improve the air quality of your home. The windows disagree.

Ventilation is good for the air quality in your home. After you have been cooped up inside for a whole season, there are a lot of pollutants and toxins as well as allergens in the air. These things can build up and accumulate over time. It’s good to let fresh air in so you can stop recycling the same air over and over again. Replacement windows allow you to freshen the air in your home whenever you please.

-Your home has a scent to it and it’s not all that pleasant.

After a gentle, Portland, OR rain, it’s nice to let the fresh scents of nature into the home. You can also air out some of the scents you aren’t fond of. Dirty laundry, anyone? The trees around your home smell much better than gym socks, that’s for sure. And your replacement windows can bring those pleasant, fresh, outdoor scents into your house whenever you want.

If you have noticed your Portland, OR windows becoming drafty, or if there are windows in your home that are damaged in some way or another, you might wonder if you should repair them or replace them completely. The answer is not necessarily the same for every home in Portland, OR. Repair often seems like the more cost-effective option, but there are many reasons that windows might need to be replaced instead. Here are a few things to consider.

  • Energy Efficiency

If your windows are rather new in your Portland, OR house, they might be energy efficient already. In that case, you might simply want to replace the windows that are damaged. • Aesthetics

If your old windows serve your needs and still look decent, great. Repair them and move about your everyday life. As your family grows, the rooms in your Portland, OR house seem to get smaller. You don’t have the money to add onto your house, but you want the tight spaces in certain rooms to look and feel bigger. What can you do? There are plenty of tips that can help you make the most of the small spaces in your home. Believe it or not, vinyl windows are on the list! Here’s why along with a few other tips.

-Use Light Colors

Dark and bright paint colors make a room feel smaller and less open. Even a large room will feel more cramped in a dark color. Light colors open the room and make it feel spacious in a whole new way.

-Let in Natural Light

Old windows have a way of blocking out the natural lighting. They might be broken, foggy, or they might have an old style that blocks the view. New vinyl windows can really let the natural light into your room, which will make it feel bigger than ever before. Make the room larger by installing new vinyl windows.

The last thing you want to do to a small room is stuff it full of large items. Furniture is necessary in most rooms, but you will want to limit the amount you have in a small room. Get down to the bare essentials to make the room seem bigger.

-Ventilate

Small rooms can get stuffy quickly and if you have old windows on your Portland, OR home, they can be hard or even impossible to open and close. New vinyl windows can make the room feel bigger because they will open and close with ease and that allows for simple ventilation anytime you need it. Stuffy rooms feel small and vinyl windows can make that issue disappear.

While you may not be able to add onto your house, you could consider adding space by way of a bay or bow vinyl window in the small room. Are your windows old and inefficient, and in need of a facelift? You might want to consider replacing them with new, energy efficient windows. When it comes time to replace them, you’ll want to be sure that you’re getting the best quality within your budget.

Lifetime is proud to carry the Simonton brand, which we believe are high quality and affordable! Simonton has been designing and manufacturing vinyl windows and doors for more than 70 years. The company initially began by Fred and Sybil Simonton, who recognized a need for exterior aluminum products in 1946, and soon they founded Pen Vent Awning. Their son convinced the rest of the family to expand its product line to stand out from competitors and started producing energy efficient vinyl windows. Today, their portfolio of products includes 12 different window and patio door lines, with a variety of features.

Lifetime offers a variety of Simonton products. These beautiful products are light-weight, but sturdy enough to hold up under a variety of seasons that happen in the Northwest, especially the rain and wind that is the most common weather here! Our best-selling Simonton product is DaylightMax®, which offers less frame and more glass so you can have more natural sunlight and better views to the outside. In fact, these windows can offer up to 40% more daylight than other wide-frame windows. DaylightMax® comes with a residential lifetime limited warranty, which can cover parts and labor. In addition, each window can come with standard double-strength ProSolar Low E glass with Argon gas so you’ll know you’re getting maximum energy efficiency.

And here’s a fun fact: Lifetime was recently just named the Simonton’s Dealer of the Year for 2016! We love Simonton products and are proud to install them. Do you want to take a look at the DaylightMax® line or view other window samples that are available for your home? We are more than happy to help! New vinyl windows come with a lot of benefits and we can help you decide which ones are right for your home and most importantly, your budget.

Variety of Window Options: Casement, Double-Hung, Single-Hung, and so on

There are many different types of windows in Beaverton, OR and many houses have more than one. Windows let natural light come into your Beaverton, OR home and they can also let fresh air in on nice days. They define the style of your home and they can help the energy efficiency and comfort of the house as well. While there are a number of different ways to customize windows, you will first need to pick an overall style.

-Double-Hung Windows

These windows have two sashes that slide up and down in a vertical manner without the frame. You can open them from the top or the bottom, but the windows always remain inside the frame. They are nice in rooms where you don’t have extra room for a window to protrude. They also work well near a patio if you don’t want a window jutting out.

-Single-Hung Windows

Single-hung windows are similar to double-hung in that the windows remain inside the frame, even when they are open. The difference is only the bottom part operates while the top part remains as is at all times.

-Casement Windows

Casement windows are hinged and can be opened with a crank. They can have hinges on either side and open outward. If you want to catch the breeze and bring it into your home, casement windows work great. They are also often energy efficient because when you close them and the cold window blows, it blows the windows tighter against the home.

-Awning Windows

Awning windows are hinged at the top and open out to let air in from the bottom or left or right, depending on where you place the windows. You can put the below, above, or beside a stationary window or another operating window.

-Picture Windows

Picture windows are generally very large and are always stationary. They don’t open or close and they let in the maximum amount of light and views into the home. They can be placed alone, in groups, or even alongside operating windows.

-Slider Windows

Slider windows glide along a track and have at least one operational window. They slide horizontally over one another so they never leave their track. They work well in modern homes.

-Bow and Bay Windows

These windows give you more space outside and a unique style outside. They protrude out from the exterior of the house. They generally use a combination of windows including double-hung, casement and other options.

Whatever type of window you need for your home in Beaverton, OR, Lifetime Windows and Doors can help you find the right fit. What to Look for in Quality Windows

There are a number of reasons to take extra time when choosing replacement windows in Beaverton, OR. The last thing you want is to spend your hard-earned money on windows that don’t last. High-quality windows are highly important for your home in Beaverton, OR. So what do you need to look for in order to find high-quality windows? Here are just a few items.

-Ratings

The window rating systems will tell you a lot about the quality of the windows you are considering. You may not know very much about window ratings, but it is a good idea to educate yourself so you know quality when you see it. For many of the ratings, you want low numbers. U-factor is a big item to inspect. The numbers fell between 0.15 and 1.20 and the lower the number, the better the window. The U-factor is particularly important for the cold climate in Beaverton, OR. You will also want to look at the R-value, which you also want to have a low number. The Solar Heat Gain Coefficient is another number to inspect. These numbers were designed to help you tell which window is higher in quality over another.

-Energy Efficiency

No one wants to purchase windows that aren’t highly energy efficient, especially for a home in Beaverton, OR. Look for energy star stickers on the windows to see how energy efficient they are. The ratings will also help determine efficiency. You will also want to consider the type of material the windows have on them in order to showcase the efficiency of the window.

-Brand

You only want to buy windows from quality brands and manufacturers. It may take a little research and extra effort to look into the background of the companies you consider, but it is worth it to get the highest quality windows you can find for the best price. Don’t work with a window company that is brand new to the market. You want craftsmanship that has been proven for a number of years and satisfied customers saying good things about the brand of windows you are considering.

-Options

Any quality window is going to have plenty of options for you to consider, whether it’s in the size, hardware, color or other elements. If there are no options, the window is likely not as high in quality as you would like.

If you are overwhelmed by the options on the market and you don’t know where to start in order to find quality windows, call Lifetime Windows and Doors at 541-633-7868. We have been the experts on windows in Oregon since 1998 and we have been working diligently since that time to keep up with the changes in technology and style. We’re here to answer any questions you might have and offer you nothing but exceptional customer service on every level. Stop by and see some of the options yourself! Our showroom is located at 14710 Southeast Lee Ave, Portland, OR 97267.

How to choose the right window style for your kitchen

The view out of your kitchen window tells a story and with the right window, you can share that story with everyone in your home as well as those that pass by. The kitchen is probably the most used room in your house, so choosing the right windows for your kitchen is important. It can enhance the room by giving it more light, offer fresh air if you need it, and provide views to the outside. Here is some helpful advice on how to choose the right window style for your kitchen.

There are a variety of window styles and options that you’ll be able to choose from, depending on your personal preferences. Each style has unique benefits and it depends on what the homeowner really needs.
Option #1: Sliding windows.
This can come in single hung or double hung versions and are very popular for kitchen windows because they offer classic style, great ventilation to the outside (with screens), and they can match existing windows in most homes.

Option #2: Casement windows.
These windows are beautiful and offer unobstructed views to the outside. They have easy to reach crank handles so you can easily open and close the window when you want extra ventilation. They are also very energy efficient, which means you’ll keep your home the temperature that’s most comfortable and save money while doing it.

Option #3: Garden windows.
Bring a bit of the outside in with these unique and absolutely gorgeous windows. They’re truly a great addition to any kitchen, because they add dimension that opens up the kitchen. You can grow plants, display collectibles, or add candles for a little bit of peaceful ambiance.

Option #4: Picture window.
If the view outside is the most important thing in your kitchen, a picture window will provide a wide open view that no other window can provide. It does not have any moving parts, so it does not provide ventilation, but if you have a patio door or other source of fresh air in the kitchen, a picture window could be a brilliant option.

A room that’s full of sunlight and life is one that brings happiness and joy to everyone inside. The kitchen is the heart of the home for most people and with the right windows, your kitchen will be somewhere where people want to be.

Want to learn more about replacing your kitchen windows? We’re proud to carry a variety of styles and brands that will fit your home’s style and most importantly, your budget. Window Materials Available: What’s Best for You?

As you begin to walk down the window replacement path, you have a lot of decisions to make. One of the first decisions you will need to make is regarding the materials you want on the windows. Outside of window type, this is the most important decision you will make. There are several material options, each of which has their benefits.

Option 1: Vinyl

Vinyl is the most popular material in use because it is highly affordable and durable. IT does not scratch, is thermal resistant, and doesn’t cost as much as other options. This material is immune to the cold temperatures in Beaverton, OR and will not change or expand. They are very low in maintenance as well. You won’t have to do anything to keep them looking nice other than wash them with soap and water as needed. They have a long life span and they come in so many different colors that anyone can find the right fit for their home.

Option 2: Fiberglass

Fiberglass is super strong and can be painted or coupled with wood trim to look nice with the home. Fiberglass is a mixture of glass fibers and resin and is a very lightweight material. It doesn’t expand or contract and holds up well against time. It has been used as a boating material for years because of its durability and reliability. It comes in a variety of factory-painted colors and there are customizable features as well. One of the benefits of fiberglass over vinyl is that it can be painted if you get tired of the color over the years. When it comes to durability and strength, you can’t beat it.

Option 3: Wood

Wood is a classic favorite and while not every builder will install it anymore, many homeowners still love the look and feel of real wood. Wood has thermal efficiency and durability to go along with its beauty. It can make top-quality windows that are gorgeous and efficiency. Bare wood helps keep the cold winter air out and there are nearly infinite possibilities when it comes to aesthetics, colors, stains, and options. Keep in mind that wood will take regular maintenance. IT can create efficient windows, but it loses its efficiency if you do not care for it. You will have to refinish the wood regular to ward off decay and rot.

Option 4: Aluminum

Aluminum is metal alloy that is extremely durable, strong, and attractive. It can be recycled and it has thermal breaks in the window to stop the transfer of the outside temperature. IT is also easy to maintain and can lower your energy bills. It can support a large window and will never rot or decay. You can get clear or dark finished in these windows, which often fits in with any home style.

Once you examine the options for your Beaverton, OR home windows, call Lifetime Windows and Doors at (503)230-0500 for more details. You can also stop by our showroom and see examples for yourself. We’re located at 14710 Southeast Lee Ave, Portland, OR 97267.
